Medal hopeful Orissa missed two bronzes in the 23rd National Under-11 Chess Championship, which concluded at Shivamogga (Karnataka) today.
Out of 13 participants from the state, girls’ top seed Sunyasakta Satpathy and boys’ second seed Sidhant Mohapatra finished fourth with eight and 8.5 points respectively.
In the 11th and final round, Sunyasakta suffered defeat, while Sidhant won. Overall, Orissa won four games, lost seven and drew the remaining two in the last round.
Tamil Nadu boy Murali Karthikeyan and Goa girl Ivana Maria Furtado bagged the two gold medals with 9.5 points each.

Boys: Sidhant Mohapatra (8.5) bt N Krishna Teja (TN), Rakesh Kumar Jena (7) lost to P Naren Swaminathan (TN), Chinmay Routray (6.5) lost to Hetul Shah (Guj), Soumen Amlan (6) bt Bhaskar Sri Viswaroopanand (Ori,5), Mohit Sahoo (5.5) drew with G Siddharth (Del).
Girls: Sunyasakta Satpathy (8) lost to M Mahalakshmi (TN), Akankhya Kabi (6.5) lost to CH Meghna (Ker), Pooja Senapati (6.5) bt Shubhani Kapoor (Raj), Smaraki Mohanty (6) lost to Shiny Das (Tri), Adyasha Pattnaik (6) bt P Preethy (Pud), Sribrinda Rout (5) lost to Shruti Priya (Bhr), Subhashree Priyadarshini (4) drew with Kavana K Prabhu (Kar).
